Road Trips and Toll Booths

On a recent trip that took me through four states, I learned the importance of reading through the princted directions. Mainly, paying attention to the number of tolls and the distance between them.

The further they are from each other, the more you will pay and in cash! These tolls don’t take credit cards even when there is an attendant. Some of the tolls were $25.00. Luckily, we took extra cash so we were okay but it did add up.

It is an experience I will never forget and one I tell to everyone.

Holidays, Single, and Nothing to Do!

Most people look forward to the holidays. Holidays are usually spent with family and friends and enjoying the festivities. But there are many who don’t have a place to go, have plans, or have lost a loved one and aren’t in the holiday spirit.

Holidays can be fun and exciting even if you are solo. Going on a trip or staying at a nearby hotel can add adventure to what may appear to be drab! This could be the perfect time to do things you haven’t gotten around to doing.

Cruising, touring, travel by rail, hotel hopping, being pampered at a spa or whatever gets you excited. Make your own holiday memory!

Yellowstone National Park

This past summer, I went to Yellowstone National Park with my family. Old Faithful was on our must see list. It erupts about every hour or a little more than that so you will want to check the schedule inside the building near the hotel for the schedule. Then, you can walk around looking at the other geyser’s and not waste time.

We saw bears from a distance and had the thrill of one walking right past our car! There were plenty of other wildlife to see and take pictures of and we even had a squirrel snatch a plastic bag that fell on the ground and he got it before we did.

The weather was perfect and there are many places to stay in the park and the surrounding areas. There isn’t cell coverage within the park unless you are near or in a building with it so you can truly enjoy the great outdoors!

Family Reunions-Better Now than Never

How many times have you thought how fun it would be to have a family reunion? How many family members have you lost or kept track of since then? There have been a few times where I did not make it a priority to attend a family get together either because I would have to rearrange a full schedule or it was out of town and there would be travel expenses. I wish I had gone.

My mom is great at talking about her childhood and family and could go on for hours, whereas my dad needs to be asked all the time. My close cousins are in different states and I don’t know their kids as we always lived away from each other.

So, what about that reunion? Don’t wait. NO excuses. Just do it!Image

Traveling with Cell Phones

Recently, I went on a cruise and took my cell phone. I went to the phone store to inquire about the different types of calling/data plans available and chose the one best suited for my needs. I didn’t think I needed to know anything else about using my phone when in another country. I sure was wrong! A friend I was traveling with said I needed to put my phone in airplane mode to avoid roaming charges and deactivate the data capability. I knew how to do and finally figured out how to do the other. I also learned that you don’t always get cell coverage and sometimes need to go where there is Wi-Fi. Next time, I will have the person at the store explain things better and show me certain features on my phone.

Family Reunions

Family reunions are a great way to reconnect with people you haven’t seen in awhile or to meet new family members. Regardless of how many will be at the event, keep in mind the varying ages and make sure the activities or venue accommodate the very young and older folks. It’s easy to forget about those who might not get around quickly or have special dietary requirements. Some reunions take place in hotels, cruise ships, all-inclusives, or someone’s house. Make sure it is accessible so everyone can move around and get around with ease.Image

There’s No Place Like Home

When people think of traveling it usually means going out of state or country. For those of you short on time or funds, go some place in your own state. A few years ago I took my family on a road trip in the mountains and we had a blast and created some great memories.
